Does Your Vibe Attract Your Tribe?

A Personal Experiment in Becoming the Person You Want to Be

By John Quirk

Hello friends, wherever you’re reading this, I hope you’re doing well.

Lately, I’ve been playing with a question that keeps coming up in my mind and my life:

Does your vibe attract your tribe?

And even more than that — can becoming the version of yourself you want to be actually bring about the life you want, without the constant grind and hustle?

The Experiment

I’m running a little experiment leading up to my 40th birthday this September. It’s rooted in this idea:

If I can change my energy — my vibration — can I magnetize the people, opportunities, and experiences that are meant for me?

What if instead of obsessively focusing on outcomes, I committed to becoming the version of myself that already has those outcomes?

What if I got clear about what that future version of me feels like, moves like, eats like, loves like — and then started showing up as him every day?

That’s the idea I’ve been living into.

And so far… it’s been kind of amazing.

The Honest Inventory

A few months ago, I looked up and realized I was about to turn 40. And honestly, I felt really proud of my life:

I live in Southern California.

I’ve traveled the world leading retreats, doing work I love.

I still play hockey — a childhood passion that’s stayed with me.

I’ve cultivated friendships and built community.

I stopped drinking. I stopped smoking weed.

My days are full of nourishment, purpose, and play.

But when I took an honest inventory, two areas of my life felt like they weren’t where I wanted them to be:

Romantic relationships – I haven’t really dated in a while. After a deep and beautiful relationship ended four years ago, I thought I’d bounce back quickly. I didn’t. My “love light,” as I call it, has felt kind of dim.

Financial consistency – I’ve had moments of success, but I’ve never truly cracked the code of running a sustainable, abundant wellness business — one that provides both impact and income without burnout.

Both of these areas feel like the kind of things you attract — not things you force. So I decided to do something different.

Instead of Pushing, I’m Aligning

Here’s what I’ve been doing lately:

Getting up early and meditating every day

Eating clean, being mindful of my habits

Teaching and taking yoga classes regularly

Joining a CrossFit-style gym to challenge my body

Playing hockey and pickleball just for fun

Laughing more, watching comedy, resting when I need it

Spending time in the sun, reading spiritual books

Seeking God, deeper spiritual connection, and divine guidance

Cutting my screen time (aiming for <2 hours a day — hard but worth it)

All of it is part of this intention:

To become the most aligned, joyful, present version of myself — and trust that from that place, everything else will fall into place.

And You Know What? It's Working.

Just last week, I ran a sold-out retreat.

I barely did any marketing. People just… showed up.

I took time to connect with each person who inquired. I had real conversations. I got to know them. And when the retreat happened, it felt like I was with old friends. It was one of my favorite retreats ever — financially and energetically.

Same with coaching — I wasn’t trying to “sell.” I was just showing up, being of service, offering value. I had six clients sign up in two weeks and made $10K in sales.

It feels like the more fun I have… the more present I am… the more I live as that future version of me…

The more things just flow.

Rewriting Success

I’ve always believed in challenge — in pushing yourself to grow.

But I’m learning that challenge doesn’t have to mean grind.

I’ve stopped cold-calling companies and running ads I don’t enjoy. I’ve stepped back from dating apps that feel energetically draining. And I’m focusing instead on being the magnet — aligning my energy, loving my life, and staying open to what wants to come in.

My last girlfriend?

I met her while interviewing for a job. I wasn’t looking for love. But something aligned. It became one of the most beautiful, love-filled connections of my life.

That’s the energy I want more of — organic, unexpected, soul-matching connection.

The Real Goals

So by the time I turn 40, here’s what I’m aiming for:

Lose 25 pounds

Stay under 2 hours of screen time per day

Build my coaching and retreat business in a joyful, aligned way

Attract loving, nourishing romantic connection

Deepen my spiritual path

But more than anything…

Keep feeling this good.

Because I’ve been happier, more consistently, than I’ve been in a long time.

No spirals. No heavy lows. Just a steady stream of joy, challenge, connection, and clarity.

Join Me

If you’ve been thinking about running your own “experiment with destiny,” I invite you to do it with me.

What would happen if you focused less on the outcome…

And more on becoming the person who naturally attracts those outcomes?

Who are you becoming?

How do you want to feel?

What are you ready to stop forcing — and start magnetizing?

And if you’ve already been walking this path — teach me! I want to learn. I want to hear how you’re trusting more, forcing less, and living in alignment with your highest self.

You can follow my personal updates on Instagram at @qholisticwellness — I’ve been sharing my weekly weight goals, screen time battles, and life insights there.

I also have been gifting coaching experiences with me and this has uncovered so much for both my clients AND for myself. In the past three months I’ve helped people,

  • heal a marriage

  • create more ease AND more financial abundance simultaneously

  • navigate leaving a corporate job and starting a wellness career

  • creating a meditation and mindfulness routine

  • finding more play and joy in everyday life

  • feel inspired
